A subtle truth on British mentality?

“When we clear the media smokescreen from around her death, what we're left with is a woman who came to represent all that's paltry and wretched about Britain today.

"She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know both drugs and crime, was barely educated, ignorant and puerile.

"Then she was projected to celebrity by Big Brother and, from that point on, became a media chattel to be manipulated and exploited till the day she died.”

Sir Michael Parkinson on Jade Goody.

Now, if I had said this, I would be lambasted for speaking ill of the British. But here we have one of their own saying it.

Then again, the same could be said of the Beckhams, or Katie Price aka Jordan.

There has to be something wrong with a society that promotes a person ‘barely educated, ignorant and puerile’ to superstar status just through winning an idiotic ‘reality TV’ show.

It really boggles the mind to know that a country that gave us Bertrand Russell, Charles Darwin, Horatio Nelson, Agatha Christie, William Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy, J R R Tolkien, Alexander Fleming, Robert Baden-Powell, Charles Dickens, Stephen Hawking,  et al now gives us… big boobs and very little brains.
