A beggarman is he

For the umpteenth time, the judiciary in good old Trinidad and Tobago is treated like the proverbial stray dog… Once more, Chief Justice Ivor Archie has to beg for funds to run the ‘third branch’ of government. The occasion was the opening of the 2015 law term, making this begging an annual event.

As I pointed out earlier, countries less developed than TnT has judicial services paid from the Consolidated Fund, making the judiciary non-dependent on an executive that strangles it unduly. Not so in TnT… the sense of power of controlling what is arguably the most powerful branch of government seems to have gone to the head of every executive since Independence.

I look forward to the begging next year.
