Things to make me wonder if I’m still sane

I know I might be slowly going insane when:

Now there are several other things bothering me, like a President who quietly took a housing allowance he was not entitled to. This according to several highly skilled lawyers and those knowledgeable in the TnT Constitution. Maybe it is an example of powers we didn’t know he had, but like his wife, he is bringing the office into disrepute by:

  • Continuing to receive this money
  • Not paying back the ill gotten gains

Now, a President taking a housing allowance is one thing if he was not able to interpret the Constitution, but what makes this all the more shameless on the part of “His Excellency” is that he is a qualified lawyer, and a former judge. He of all persons should know that "Ignorance of the law excuses no man; not that all men know the law, but because 'tis an excuse every man will plead, and no man can tell how to confute him." [Selden – 1689].

When the Ministry of Health says they are ready for Ebola, and that is refuted by an expert from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that is a cause for worry. But it is not anything less than I expected from the braggadocio of a Trini. Fuad Khan might be attempting to allay possible panic, but knowing how lax the typical Trini is about health, and the casual attitude of doctors and nurses, it is not unexplainable that the expert from CDC is absolutely right.

Each year (and each successive government) claims to be able to solve flooding in various parts of the country are bleated by persons, like mindless sheep. Notwithstanding large sums spent on equipment, occasional dredging, and political photo-op clean-ups, the actual flooding situation gets worse every year. Now, an entire village in the south-eastern part of the country is cut off from the rest of the island. Nothing new there, but it shows that Trini boasting isn’t really a viable solution.

I’m frustrated by the inaction of those people who can do something about all this mess, but that is probably wishing that wishes were horses.
